The sides of the diamonds that make up an octagon are proportional to each other using the silver ratio. You've heard of the golden ratio but have you heard about the Silver Ratio?
Another irrational mathematical constant, whose value of one plus the square root of 2 is approximately 2.4142135623. The Jan to the mathematical Marcia, the silver ratio diamond based on the Pell sequence or the metallic mean between 2 and 3 (instead of 1 and 2 like the golden ratio).
A "silver rectangle" can be cut into two squares and another silver rectangle. The ratio of the side lengths is 1+√2, about 2.414
Does it measure up to the golden ratio? Quite literally no, but it does make a pretty cool light art work!
